Gebrüder Weiss procures new logistics terminal in Romania

1,500 m² GW plant has been operating in Arad since the beginning of December 2005

The seven-strong GW team that makes up the Gebrüder Weiss branch in Arad, Romania, has recently relocated to a modern 1,500 m² logistics terminal in order to be able to cope with the constantly growing volume of shipments. The new plant is located very close to the former premises and is being leased by Gebrüder Weiss.

Thomas Moser, Regional Manager for the Danube and Adriatic region, explains: ”The volume of shipments in this region has doubled in the past few months. Our capacities in the old plant were pushed to the very limits and the infrastructure there was also in dire need of modernisation. This is why we made the decision to relocate to the new logistics terminal. The potential for expansion here means that we are now in a position to continue to grow very dynamically in Arad in the future.” For GW customers, the new Arad site acts as an optimum transport location for serving the western part of the Romanian market; its proximity to Hungary is also advantageous. And there is ample scope here for operating a warehouse both cost-effectively and efficiently. As highlighted by the Regional Manager Moser, the Arad site will be playing a very important role in the plan to expand the Romanian network of logistics bases.

The Austrian transport and logistics organisation Gebrüder Weiss (GW) started its activities in Romania in Bucharest as early as 1996. The plant in Arad was then opened in the spring of 2001, followed by another representative office in Brasov in 2004. The Arad site was chosen by GW for its strategically advantageous location in western Romania and is particularly attractive for transports between Austria, Romania and Hungary. ”In the next one or two years we will be investing substantial amounts in strengthening our position in this region – especially here in the Arad/Timisoara region,” says Moser.

Romania on the road to success
The Romanian economy has been reporting growth rates in excess of eight per cent for several years now. One reason for this is the heavy investments being made by foreign companies, especially those based in Germany and Italy. The optimism sweeping the country is also caused by Romania’s entry into the NATO at the end of March 2004 and the successful negotiations with the European Union for entry on 1 January 2007.

The Gebrüder Weiss organisation
Gebrüder Weiss has its headquarters based in Lauterach in Vorarlberg (Austria) and employs a total workforce of approximately 3,500 people at over 100 locations worldwide. In the last financial year the Austrian logistics company generated revenues amounting to 708 million euros.
