Gebrüder Weiss increases effectiveness in India

With its joining of Tricon Shipping and the name change to Weiss-Röhlig India, the Austrian transport and logistics enterprise Gebrüder Weiss strengthens its global network with 16 locations on the subcontinent.

GW extends its expansion into the Asia-Pacific region with the foundation of Weiss-Röhlig India. The necessary steps for this expansion have already been taken: The Gebrüder Weiss long-term partner Röhlig acquired a 50% share in Tricon Shipping Pvt. Ltd. at the beginning of this year. Gebrüder Weiss has now taken over half of these shares. The name change to Weiss-Röhlig India will take place on 1 September 2009. The residual 50% remain within the control of founder and long-time Managing Director B. R. Rangamani.

”The joining with Tricon Shipping increases our expertise in this very important and complex market in one stroke. We carefully prepared this step over a long time and have evaluated several opportunities. Given their professional conduct, their focus on the customer, and their company culture, we found in Tricon a company that suits us nearly perfectly”, said Air & Sea Chairman Heinz Senger-Weiss to explain the significance of this share.

Weiss-Röhlig India has 150 employees. The Indian market is covered by 16 branches throughout the country, with the headquarters in Chennai. The scope of services includes Air & Sea transport handling, project logistics, customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution. Joe Lässer, Air & Sea Director, said: ”The name change to Weiss-Röhlig India allowed us to establish the company sustainably in India and to act as a group under one unique roof. We have developed from an association of agencies into a complete solutions provider covering the entire logistics value chain.”

B. R. Rangamani will continue to manage Weiss-Röhlig India. He can look back on more than 20 years of experience in the Indian transport and logistics business. ”This full integration allows our team in India to benefit from its strengths and to develop even better! We are pleased to be an integral partner of the GW and Röhlig network and see many development opportunities for us and our customers. The estimated economic growth of 7%, even in the crisis year 2009, will give wings to our development”, said Rangamani.
