Gebrüder Weiss Kft.: top-performing financial year of 2008

The increasing clientele

The Hungarian subsidiary of the Austrian Gebrüder Weiss (GW) forwarding company and logistics concern enlarged its capacities by partnering with strategically important and new customers and it launched a regional logistics distribution centre at Dunaharaszti (Hungary). Based on the last year’s extremely successful financial results the current crisis year is being considered to be the period of new opportunities. Its record progress in January, 2008 continued with the further increase of the numbers of the export and import assignments. For supplying the activities deriving from the increasing clientele the company has established a new service providing group being prepared for performing value-added complex tasks, too.

In 2008 the GW Hungary forwarded 25% more consignments (totalling 844 thousand consignments) to the European countries. The total weight of the forwarded consignments exceeded 250 million kgs. According to the preliminary figures the sales revenue exceeded the previous year’s results by 8 percent within the circumstances of the tough market competition.
The company kept continuing its dynamic investment policy: it opened the third Hungarian site at Hajdúböszörmény and with this step the total warehouse area increased to 23 500 sqm. The number of employees has increase, too, with some percents and currently there are 250 well-trained professionals fulfilling the clients’ logistics assignments.
The effects of the economic crisis were felt at the Hungarian subsidiary, too: as of October, 2008 the number of assignments of the clients interested primarily in the import and the automotive industry. Due to the quick reaction to the crisis however the GW keeps operating by making use of its full capacity and they reckon that considering the number of consignments they are going to exceed the last year’s record performance. Nevertheless it was the first occasion when the number of consignments slowed down despite the increasing occurring through the years.
The GW obtained the stability in majority due to the extraordinary investment made in the past years. In 2007 it spent EUR 4,7 million for the logistics development of the Hungarian warehouse, the investment budget of 2008. was EUR 3 million. The objective of the development consists of providing the clients with comprehensive logistics and top-quality IT solutions. These do not only decrease the clients’ logistics-related expenses but enable the development and realisation of the specific logistics solutions. This is what is required in the current difficult economic situation.
